General Questions

Why should I support your organization?

We believe that everyone deserves a Bright future. Every day, we strive to provide children with food to eat, access to education, protection from harm, and effective healthcare. BAF programs are innovative and create lasting impacts for hundreds of children, their families, village widows and orphans, and every missionary that’s connected.

Are you a 501c3?

Yes, we are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in good standing. Your donations are tax-deductible.

What locations do you serve in?

We have been called to serve in the beautiful country of Rwanda. The Southern district of Huye, in the villages of Sata and Cyiri, just outside of city of Huye (formerly Butare).

What types of child sponsorships are available?

We offer individual child sponsorship, connecting one child to one sponsor. You can also support our schools and our wonderful staff.

Can I communicate with my child?

Yes, you can send emails to your child that can even include a photo. Please note that all communication between you and your child is moderated and translated by our staff.

Am I able to update my information and view details of my support?

Yes, once you donate, you become a supporter in our system and will have access to our Donor Portal. You can log in to view your support, update your contact and payment information, and much more.

Financial Questions

How much does sponsorship cost?

The cost of sponsorship is $40 a month per child.

Can I pay for my sponsorship quarterly or annually?

Yes. The sponsorship page shows the monthly amount of sponsorship. However, on the checkout page, you can modify your payment frequency to quarterly or annually.

What happens if my payments are interrupted?

We will contact you after two failed payment attempts to figure out how to proceed.

Will I receive tax receipts for my donations?

Yes, you will receive donation receipts upon donation. You can also print individual receipts and yearly contribution statements at any time from your Donor Portal.

Do you accept one-time donations to my child for birthdays or holidays?

Absolutely Yes! You can log in to your Donor Portal, go to your sponsorship’s record, and add a one-time donation.

Can I cancel my sponsorship at any time?

Yes, you can cancel your sponsorship from your Donor Portal at any time. Your child will be flagged as “Biggest Need” and placed at the top of the sponsorship page. This is to quickly get the child re-sponsored so they are not removed from school, or disconnected from medical insurance.

What does $40 a month do?

Quarterly Food $12. Every 3 months, the family of your sponsored child receives a 55-lb bag of rice and a 25-lb bag of beans.

Reach Fees $4. Our website, database, communication software, and payment processing are administered by Reach. When sponsoring or donating, you will be asked if you want to bless us by covering the processing fees. If you do, the additional money will go towards an educational trip for the children during the school year.

Self Help Groups $4. The Self Help Groups are parent programs for our sponsored children. The parents of BAF form co-op groups, meet weekly, pool money, and work towards a co-operative goal, such as raising animals, growing and selling crops, or starting a small business. The $4 is the seed money to start the programs, provide training, and create microloans for growth.

Shoes $3. The BAF children receive 4 pairs of shoes throughout the year. Two pairs of school shoes are received at the beginning and middle of the school year. Proper shoes are a requirement to attend school. The other two pairs of shoes are “Slides” or shower shoes, much like a Croc or Flip-Flop. The Slides are what the kids wear when they are not in school.

Soap & Lotion $3. Twice a month, the families receive all-purpose bar soap for cleaning and hygiene, and lotion or Vaseline for dry and cracked skin, especially the feet.

Health Insurance $3. We are able to bless the entire family with health insurance.

Saturday Bible Class $2. Saturdays are filled with happy children at BAF. They are taught Bible lessons and scripture, play games, and everyone gets a hot nutritious lunch.

School Uniforms $2. Each child is required to have two full uniforms to last them the school year. A lightweight sweater is also provided. Each child must wash and maintain their own uniform.

Medication & 1st Aid $2. This money pays for doctor visit copays and any medication needed for the child. BAF also keeps 1st aid supplies at the ready.

Educational Trips $1.50. Nearly all the children in these remote villages have never left the village. BAF rents a bus and takes them to a museum or on tours of other fun educational places. There will be a lunch and maybe even some ice cream from the city!

School Fees $1. Public school fees are one dollar a month per child, and that also now includes a hot lunch.

Summer Holiday Party $1. Every summer during the school break, we throw a super fun party for all the kids. This is the highlight of the summer. We have music, games, sports, BBQ, Soda, and snacks! The whole village turns out for this!

Kids Micro Business $.50 Just like the adult self-help groups, the children also form co-op groups to raise chickens and farm small plots of land. Learning self-sufficiency starts here!
